Wiring

When buying a sauna, make sure to ask if the wires are inside a coated flexible steel conduit. The steel conduit helps in the following:
- Protect the wires from external damage.
- Reduce electrical fire hazard.
- PVC coating on the outside provides water and moisture protection.
- Provides Electro-magnetic Field (EMF) shielding.
Heaters
Because heaters work in a close proximity to dry wood, each heater should have a temperature sensitive switch.
Carbon Fiber Heaters:
Carbon fiber heaters should include the following:
- The back of the heater should be insulated
- Temperature sensitive switch attached to the back each heater
- The heater should not be touching the wooden walls (about 1 inch away) to prevent fire hazerds
Ceramic Heaters
If you are buying a ceramic heaters, make sure of the following:
- Each heater is equiped with a heat senstive switch
- The heater should be mounted inside a double layer metalic sheilding
- Each heater should have a front cover (heat protection) to pervent skin burns
- The sauna should have a built in backrest
Certification
Finally, make sure the sauna has passed safety certificiation such as the Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) (Intertek's ETL SEMKO Standards for the United States and Canada).
